Differing views from arizona to california
Eli Piccarreta - Community Interview Project
Hello
everybody, my name is Eli Piccarreta and these are my composite stories on
same-sex marriage. On June 24th, the United State Supreme court
ruled that same-sex marriage is legal in all 50 states, and to prevent same-sex
marriage would be un-constitutional. I personally have always been someone who
supports equality and believes that people should have the right to marry who
they love. However, many people have differing views on this topic than me,
while many people have the same. I will be interviewing many different people
from different communities to see what their opinions are on such a
controversial topic. I am happy to be a part of
arainbowofinterviews.weebly.com, and hope that my composite stories help
contribute to a great community interview project.
All in all, I really enjoyed interviewing a wide variety of people and hearing their opinions on such a controversial and popular subject. I think something interesting that a few of my interviewees talked about (Andre + Dan) was that "Time" was a major factor in determining the widespread acceptance of gay and lesbian couples. I also really was pleased with the fact that I was able to interview two people from Tucson, Arizona and two people from the Los Angeles, California area. One of the things that we learned about in ESOC300 was the "dangers of a single story", so it was important to me to get multiple different stories of people from the same area. I wanted to do my best to make sure that an area/demographic was fairly represented (to the best of my ability) and I feel like I was able to do that through my community project. While all four of my interviewees had different things to say, I think one thing is clear from them all: that they are all pleased with the supreme court ruling, and think that it is a step in the right direction. However, they all also agree that there are multiple more steps to go.
